volissos_castle_3Volissos is located 40 km from the city of Chios and is the capital of the Municipality of Amani. It is the largest village in the northwestern Chios with 500 residents. According to tradition Volissos said to be the hometown of Homer, and some researchers say that there was written the parody of EliadaVatrachomiomachia. Volissos has many tourists and there you can find many facilities such as restaurants, cafes, a traditional bakery, mini-market, ATM, hairdresser, post office, pharmacy, clinic and police station. It is worth visiting the castle of the village and a small museum which is in the square on the village.


A wide range of olive and lemon trees separates the village from the beaches. At a distance of 2 km the beaches Managros, Magemena, Gonia, Leukathia and Limnos. On the way to Agia Marcella there are Lampsa and Agia Marcella’s beaches. If you rent a car or motorbike, you can visit many unknown and beautiful beaches such as Tigani, Elinta and Trachili located in the western part of Chios.

Churches and festivals
Churches and festivals. All around the village you can find many Byzantine churches. The festivals of the village are on August 6th which celebrates the Transfiguration and in August 15 which celebrates the Virgin Mary. 
Volissos area is suitable for those who love nature. Just outside the village is a very nice hiking trail that gives you the opportunity to enjoy the flowers and the trees of the area.
